New York City School Construction Authority (SCA) President and CEO Nina Kubota announced the successful completion and opening of 11 new schools/additions and pre-k facilities, for the 2021-2022 school year.
The new schools, additions and pre-k centers will add 3,773 much-needed seats in overcrowded districts and will further enable the Department of Education to enhance social distancing measures to focus on the health and safety of students, educators and school communities. Since 2014, the SCA has added 55,313 new seats, in fulfillment of the mayor’s commitment to reduce overcrowding and increase diversity. This includes 11,288 seats as part of the mayor’s Pre-K and 3-K for All initiatives.
“These new locations exemplify our deep-rooted commitment to empowering our 1.1 million students with the environment and tools they need to succeed,” said Kubota. “The SCA will continue to create seats in areas of current overcrowding and projected enrollment growth and is well on target to meet the Mayor’s goal of adding 83,000 new seats as part of the last two Capital Plans.”
