82 students receive their diplomas from St. Ray’s

Saint Raymond Elementary School held its Graduation ceremony on Friday, June 12, at St. Raymond Church. Monsignor John Graham, Pastor of Saint Raymond parish, presided over the Mass and ceremony at which 82 graduates received their diplomas. Comment.

St. Theresa graduation marks 50th anniversary of first

The 8th Grade Class at St. Theresa School has enjoyed several celebrations of their graduation, the 50th anniversary of St. Theresa’s first graduating class. There was a special Mass on Sunday, June 7, celebrated by Father Grippo, pastor of the parish; there was an 8th grade prom dance at Maestro’s Caterers on Wednesday, June 10; and, finally, the 8th graders graduated at the ceremony for them on Friday, June 12. Comment.

Spellman holds 47th commencement

Cardinal Spellman High School held its 47th commencement on Saturday, June 6 at the Lehman College Performing Arts Center, with 298 young men and women receiving diplomas. Rev. Trevor Nicholls, president of Cardinal Spellman, presided over the ceremony, and welcomed everyone in attendance. An invocation by Rev. Francis J. Principe, director of Spiritual Activities, was followed by Kristiana Brooks of the Class of 2009 singing the National Anthem. Comment.

Dixieland on July 4th

The Bronx Arts Ensemble Jazz and Dixieland Band opens the BAE SUMMERMUSIC series with a salute to George M. Cohan, Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, W. C. Handy and more at a FREE concert in Van Cortlandt Park at Rockwood Drive Circle, near Mosholu Avenue and Broadway on Sat., July 4 at 2 pm in celebration of Independence Day. Trombonist and bandleader Jack Gale, who has arranged music for numerous Broadway theatres, commercials and concerts, will arrange all music for the Jul 4 performance. Seating is provided but the audience is urged to bring folding chairs. Comment.
