Klein launches Graffiti Court Watchers

A crowd of community members fed up with slap-on-the-wrist sentences for graffiti offenses met outside of Bronx Criminal Court to call for jail time for repeat adult offenders. The group, decked out in bright colored T-shirts drawing attention to the perils of graffiti, were on hand for the launch of Senator Jeff Klein’s Court Watchers Program. Comment.

Million Trees campaign gives Villa Maria Academy a shady deal

The kiddies at Villa Maria Academy will show Mother Nature some love this Friday. Students will parade around Country Club before returning to the school to read poems and dedicate some of the 81 new trees that have been planted on school grounds, all in honor of Earth Day, which is Thursday April 22. CILL pays tribute to former president

City Island Little League celebrated its opening day with hot dogs and soda and honored the man who led the organization for the past eight years. Former league president Bob Whalen, a parent who has been involved with the league for two decades, was honored during the opening ceremony at Anthony Ambrosini Field on Saturday, April 17. Whalen’s wife Anna and daughter Brianna accepted the award in his behalf. Comment.

Senior center leader passes

Angela Buonocore, longtime volunteer at the Morris Park Community Association and the senior coordinator for the organization for the past three years, died recently. She is being remembered by all who knew her as a warm person who was always eager to volunteer for her community. She was the proud mother of two children. Comment.
