The NYPD is searching for the suspect who allegedly assaulted and robbed a 70-year old man in Highbridge earlier this month.

Police say the incident took place around 1:15 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, when the Bronx senior was entering his residential building, located in the vicinity of Anderson and Jerome avenues within the confines of the 44th Precinct, about a block or so from Yankee Stadium.

As the senior was entering the front door of the residence, an unidentified male approached him from behind and struck him in the head with what the NYPD is currently describing as an unknown object. The attacker then proceeded to “forcibly remove” the victim’s wallet from his right front pocket before fleeing on foot to parts unknown, according to the NYPD. The victim’s wallet contained credit cards and a MetroCard.

According to the NYPD, the suspect is believed to be around 50 years old, has a dark complexion and is approximately 5 feet, 10 inches tall with a medium build.

Police say the suspect was last seen on the day of the incident wearing a blue jacket, blue jeans, black sneakers and a blue winter hat. He was carrying a black book bag.

The victim, who sustained minor injuries and bruising resulting from the incident, was transported to a local hospital by private means, according to police.

The number of robberies taking place within the 44th Precinct confines between Feb. 26 and March 24 saw a decrease of 34%, compared to the same time period last year. However, felony assaults saw an increase of about 8% this year, compared to the same time period in 2023, according to the Bronx Times’ most recent Police Beat.
