Softball Highlights

Preston 7 – Maria Regina 3: Preston, coming into the game boasting five players – Ashley Weiderhold, Devyn Abbate, Lauren Barrett, Leanne Cerbone and Sara Cavigliano – who were named to the school’s honor society, picked up a big win on Thursday, April 17, behind Abbate’s excellent pitching.  The senior picked up 11 K’s, while the bats did the work in the 3rd inning, as Laura Montalto, Danielle Sedia, Weiderhold and Cerbone moved runners over and brought them home with big little hits during a strong team effort.  While the hitting and pitching impressed coach Rachel Mazza, their fielding did the trick earlier in the week in a 12-0 win over Aquinas.  The fielders were error free, backing the tandem of Abbate (3 IP, 9 K’s) and Kaitlyn Brown (5 K’s), and the offensive power of Montalto (4-for-4, 3 RBI’s), as Preston continued its winning ways.

Clinton 10 – HS Environmental Studies 0: Overcoming a 7-6 loss to Lehman, Clinton (9-1) has gone on a five-game winning streak.  Their latest occurred at home on April 18, as Ayla Espinal (2-for-3, 1 R, 3 RBI’s) and Jazcelyn Pagan (3-for-4, 2 R, 1 RBI, 2 doubles, 1 triple) led the way with the offensive onslaught.  Ashley Icaza (5 IP, 2 H, 7 K’s) picked up the shutout victory.
