Baseball Highlights

Walton 6 – South Bronx 2: South Bronx (3-5), behind the strong pitching of Aaron Northern (7 IP, 2 H, 2 R) took an early 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the 6th inning during this meeting at South Bronx on Wednesday, April 16, but Walton (6-2), demonstrating why they are hanging tough behind Monroe in the Bronx A East Division, came back with two runs to take the lead and eventually win the game.  Jose Cruz (2-for-2), Phillips Gomez (1-for-3) and Randy Ramirez (1-for-1) drove in the runs for Walton, in the win, and Peter Ozuna (6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 8 K’s) won the pitcher’s duel with a save from Andy Mendez (1 IP, 3 BB, 3 K’s).

Lehman 16 – Alfred E. Smith 0: The Lions (9-0) made a home crowd happy on Thursday, April 17, with an exciting offensive onslaught that saw Lehman score 14 runs over the 3rd and 4th innings, teeing off on Smith’s Ganesh Ghensham (3 IP, 6 H, 10 ER, 7 BB) and Americo Fernandez (1 IP, 2 ER) to continue their dominance in the PSAL.  Alfred E. Smith dropped to 1-8.

John F. Kennedy 10 – Bronx Science 2: The Knights (9-0) have been able to keep pace with the Lions and remain in a first place tie with their rivals in the Bronx A West Division.  And on, Friday, April 18, at home, behind the offense of Antonio Rivera (3-for-4, 3 R, 3 RBI’s, 2 Doubles, 2 SB), Bienvenido Martinez (4-for-4, 1 R, 4 RBI’s, 2 Doubles) and Samuel Dominguez (1-for-2, 1 R, 2 RBI’s, 1 HR) the Knights got the win over Science (1-8).  Bennie Fair (5 IP, 3 H, 2 R) was the winning pitcher. 

Morris 15 – HS of American Studies @ Lehman College 1: Efrain Bautista (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI’s, 1 triple, 1 HR) and Arismendy Nunez (2-for-3, 4 R, 2 RBI’s, 1 double) and pitcher Argelis Merejo (4 IP, 2 H, 1, R, 6 K’s) pushed Morris to 10-0 on the year, atop the Bronx B Division. 

Riverdale/Kingsbridge Academy 10 – HS Info & Network Tech 2: A homerun from Justin Santiago (2-for-3, 2 R, 3 RBI’s, 1 double), along with the hitting of Malcolm Harper (2-for-3, 3 R, 2 RBI’s, 2 doubles) and the pitching of Stefan Sunda (6 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 5 K’s), increased the Academy’s record to 8-0, placing the team in a three-way tie for first place in the B Division.  

Jane Addams 11 – Taft 6: Abel Infante (3-for-5, 3 RBI’s, 1 double), Gabriel Lebron (3-for-3, 3 R, 2 RBI’s) and Jimmy Bermudez (3-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBI’s, 4 SB) pushed the Jaguars to 7-0. They will next attempt to eliminate Riverdale/Kingsbridge Academy from the mix when they meet on April 29.
