Jacoby Appliance store sold

Despite losing a neighborhood institution, Allerton Avenue shoppers will still have a place to get parts for their appliances.

AP Wagner, Inc., one of North America’s largest multi-national distributors of parts and accessories for appliances, vacuum cleaners, consumer electronics and HVAC, recently purchased Jacoby Appliance Parts.

The business, located at 1055 Allerton Avenue, was-family owned since it opened more than 50 years ago. With the death of its original owner, Jules Jacoby, last year, his son Elliot took over as principal owner and CEO before the sale.

“AP Wagner has set new standards for customer service in the appliance parts distribution industry,” Jacoby said.  “I am proud that our long standing successful family business has become part of such a fine organization.”

The Allerton Avenue store was one of eight Jacoby locations, with five in New Jersey, one in Delaware and one other New York location.

Bob Harlacher, the store’s manager and employee of 29 years, assures customers, “Everything’s going to remain the same for now, they told us,” Harlacher said regarding AP Wagner’s management mandate.  “It’s business as usual.”

Harlacher added that at the end of the month, the Wagner representatives would come in with new computer systems and make electronic changes to sync the Bronx location within the larger corporate infrastructure.

Rick Essex, CEO of AP Wagner, explained his company’s brand and the continuation of the quality Jacoby service that northeast Bronx residents have come to expect.

“With out recent purchase of Jacoby Appliance Parts, AP Wagner continues to solidify its position as one of the leading appliance parts suppliers in the United States,” Essex said.

“We will continue to provide the excellent services that Jacoby has offered its customers for half a century, while implementing our own premier customer service model.”

AP Wagner, owned by AP Wagner management and Albright Capital Partners LLC, has 300,000 square feet of warehousing space and 300 employees.

Including the new Jacoby locations, the company will have 23 branch locations, three distribution hubs and four call center operations in the U.S. and Canada.
