49th Pct. housing officers honored for crime reduction

Two housing unit officers were honored for their months of services at two Pelham Parkway housing developments now policed by the 49th Precinct.

Deputy Inspector Kevin Collins joined 49th Precinct Council President Joe Thompson and Alexis Grenell, director of communications to Senator Jeff Klein, in honoring police officers Michael Tomao and Carmelo Quiles, who worked in the Pelham Parkway and Eastchester Gardens Houses, during a special ceremony at the Precinct Council’s monthly meeting, on Tuesday, April 29.

“It is in my opinion, that the good work conducted by these two officers has greatly contributed to the decline in crime within the housing developments,” Collins wrote in a letter addressed to Borough Commanding Officer Assistant Chief Thomas Purtell earlier in the month.

Quiles, a veteran of the Department of Corrections for 10 years, was not available for the ceremony, and is currently on a temporary investigation assignment.
