Regina pitched once more on May 14, at the Parkchester Little League Field in a 13-7 loss against the surging girls from Adlai Stevenson (15-3). Her dominance against Hunter was completely eclipsed in a 7 inning performance that saw Regina allow 13 hits and 13 runs, striking out only 5 batters, as Nathaly Campos (4-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBI’s, 1 2B, 2 SB), Shanay Bonilla (2-for-4, 2 R, 1 RBI), Sharina Aristy (1-for-3, 2 R) and Diana Duran (3-for-4, 1 R, 2 RBI’s, 1 2B) put one in the win column for Yamilka Tejeda (7 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 8 K’s). Stevenson ends the season in second place.
On May 17, the Lady Governors (16-2) claimed first place and avenged an earlier season loss with a big 15-3 win at Clinton. Once again, Regina was asked to get the job done, allowing 12 earned runs in 5 innings, as Niki Rodriguez (3-for-3, 3 R, 3 RBI’s), Ashley Icaza (1-for-2, 2 R, 1 RBI), Ayla Espinal (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 2B), Jacelyn Pagan (2-for-3, 1 R, 2 RBI’s) and Kassandra Leidermer (2-for-3, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 2B), who promised her team would die first before losing two straight to the Lady Lions. Icaza allowed only allowed 4 hits and 3 runs, and struck out 5 Lehman batters in the 5 inning win.
Clinton earned a 7 seeding in the tournament, while Stevenson was seeded 13, followed by Lehman as the #17 seed.
On Thursday, May 15, at Bergen Field, the Lady Wolverines (12-5) outsmarted the High School of Environmental Studies 9 -3, on the backs of Alexandra Krawczuk (3-for-4, 2 R, 4 RBI’s, 1 3B), Elizabeth Rubel (3-for-4, 3 R, 1 RBI), Mackenzi Charter (2-for-4, 1 R, 2 RBI’s, 1 3B) and Corinne Fish (7 IP, 10 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 8 K’s). Science goes into the upcoming playoffs as the #14 seed.
The Lady Knights (10-7) clinched a fifth place spot in the Bronx A Division, overcoming a tough loss to Adlai Stevenson, to win four straight games, including a 13-3 win over South Bronx, 11-1 win over Louis Brandeis, and a 16-2 victory against Bronx Leadership Academy, but perhaps the biggest win was an exciting 4-3 win over Bronx Science that saw strong performances from Amanda Small (3-for-3, 1 R, 1 RBI), Vanessa Cullen (1-for-4, 2 RBI’s), Teresa Rodriguez (2-for-3, 2 2B’s) and Jhoeldi Paulino (7 IP, 2 ER, 2 K’s). For its efforts, Kennedy earned a #22 seed in the upcoming playoffs.
