Two schools square off to represent Bronx

The competition is heating up as two local schools get set to square off on Cablevision’s The Challenge, an academic style quiz show designed to test students’ knowledge, with the Bronx championship now on the line.

All Hallows High School, in Highbridge, and Dewitt Clinton High School, in Bedford Park, are the last of the 15 Bronx schools originally competing that are left in the competition.

The Bronx finals were taped on May 20, and will air exclusively on Cablevision on Saturday, May 24 at 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., with an encore the following night, Sunday, May 25 at 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

The Challenge, hosted by News 12 Bronx anchor Heather McBride, can also be viewed anytime through the convenience of video on demand through News 12 interactive. Cablevision feels the episode to air highlights the best of the borough.

“Of the 15 Bronx schools that compete in The Challenge this season, it has all come down to these two terrific teams,” said Trent Anderson, Cablevision’s vice-president of education. “The pressure is really on now, since the winner of the Bronx finals will go on to compete in the Bronx-Brooklyn Finals and may ultimately compete in the Tri-State Regionals and beyond.”

For the first time in its 11-year history, The Challenge includes schools and students from the Bronx, as well as from Westchester/Hudson Valley region, in addition to Long Island, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

The principal of All Hallows High School, Sean Sullivan, said the school was really psyched to have made it to the final round of The Challenge. He was especially proud of the participants.

“The five kids are all in my honors Calculus class,” Sullivan stated.

Dewitt Clinton representatives were unavailable for comment.

The winning team from each region will receive $2,500 and go on to compete for $10,000 in the Tri-State Championship. Each student participating in the Championship Match will receive $500.
