Scanlan awards scholarships

On Friday, April 25, the administration, faculty and students of Monsignor Scanlan High School gathered for this year’s Leadership Assembly.

The main purpose of the assembly was to become more aware of the mission of each of Scanlan’s clubs and to recognize the leadership role of club officers. Sr. Marie O’Donnell presented leadership certificates to the officers of the National Honor Society, Cervantino (Spanish honor society), Student Council, Newspaper Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Scanlan Choir, Cultural Awareness and the Health and Wellness Club.

One of the major highlights of the ceremony was the awarding of in-house scholarships. The income for these scholarships comes from the fundraising efforts of the various school clubs. As a result, Sr. Marie was able to award scholarships, in the amount of $500, to several students.

National Honor Society scholarships were awarded to juniors Alexis Solorzano and Yuliana Perez. The Student Council scholarship was received by Talisa Sosa, a junior. Freshman Michael Goitia and sophomore Vincent Santonastasio were the recipients of the Campus Ministry scholarships. Junior Rauchel McPherson received a scholarship offered by the Future Leaders of America. The Crusader Scanlan Newspaper scholarship was awarded to junior Joanna Mendez. Angelina Rosario, a junior, was given a scholarship thanks to the efforts of Cervantino. In addition, Patrick Gallagher scholarships were awarded to freshman Donayale Simmonds, sophomore Michael Grand and juniors Michael Cruz and William Cruz.
