Morris 17 – Long Island City 13: With Gompers and High School of American Studies also losing in the playoffs, Morris supplied some much needed relief in the Bronx, with Jacklyn Valdez (2-for-5, 1 R, 3 RBI’s, 1 2B, 1 3B), Jenny Hernandez (2-for-5, 1 R, 2 RBI’s), Stephanie Diaz (1-for-3, 2 RBI’s, 1 3B, 3 BB), and Michele Tolentino (7 IP, 8 H, 13 R, 4 K’s) leading the way in the victory. Morris, ranked #21, will have its hands full when it faces HS of Construction in B Division 2nd round action.
Jane Addams 9 – Frederick Douglass Academy 7: Liliana Lopez (2-for-4, 2 R, 3 RBI’s, 2 2B), Nicole Madera (2-for-4, 2 R) and Jocelyn Marin (1-for-3 2 RBI’s) provided the offense to propel Niover Lantigua (7 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 9 K’s) and the 19th ranked Lady Jaguars into the 2nd round against the #3 seeded Flushing team.
Evander 25 – Queens HS of Teaching 9: Franelba Pena (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI’s) and Josephine Estevez (3-for-5, 4 R, 4 RBI’s) slammed home runs to push the Lady Tigers (10) into 2nd round action against Boys & Girls High School.
Riverdale/Kingsbridge Academy 16 – HS of Health Professions 4: Janelyn Witkowski (2-for-3, 2 R, 3 RBI’s), Kandace Coston (2-for-2, 3 R, 2 RBI’s) and Nelyssa Rosario (1-for-2, 2 R, 2 RBI’s) provided the run support and Dylan Prill (5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 K’s) held things down on the mound, as Riverdale/Kingsbridge, the #2 seed, advances to take on Beacon High School in the 2nd round of the B Division playoffs this week.
