Bronxwood Home sponsors health fair

The Bronxwood Home & Assisted Living Program, located at 799 E. Gun Hill Road in Baychester, sponsored a lively barbeque and health fair on Thursday, May 27, for its residents and other family members.

In addition to burgers, hotdogs, and umbrella topped slushy drinks, representatives from Bronx healthcare providers were on hand to provide valuable information and promote their services.

“The hope is to reach out to the community to show we care,” said Ari Cyperstein, director of operations at the home.

He explained that it was the home’s first fair and expected a turnout of over 600 people.  Many family members of patients came out to enjoy the event.

Representatives from Project Bravo at Montefiore Medical Center were promoting safe sex for seniors, while the Jewish Association for Services for the Aged Geriatric Mental Health Outreach advertised their inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services.

The American Heath Association provided information about strokes, while vision screenings and blood pressure and stress tests provided patient-specific heath information.

In addition to the numerous health organizations, entertainment was provided by palm reader Denise “Delilah” Rivera and novelty photographer Barry Becker of Starlight Entertainment.

A great time was had by all enjoying the beautiful weather and festivities, including the staff and administration of the facility geared toward providing a fun, active lifestyle for its senior population.

“We thought this would be a great way to kick off summer, right after Memorial Day,” Cyperstein said.
