Bronx family offers missing-dog award

Bugzy was more than a pet; to the Mollicas, he was family, and now that the half Rottweiler/German Shepard has gone missing, a $1,000 reward is being offered for his return.

The 12-year-old pooch wandered away from his home near 233rd street on Sunday afternoon, June 8, to explore a community he has never seen.

“He’s a house dog,” said Teresa Mollica.  “He never leaves the confines of the home and when we left the back gate open, he must have gotten curious and wandered off.”

Bugzy, a medium to large sized dog described as mostly black with beige spots on his feet and chest, was last seen that same afternoon in front of a tire shop on Boston Road and Bivona Avenue when a dark skinned lady driving in a black car with Pennsylvania license plates stepped out of her vehicle, scoped up the dog and drove off.

According to Mollica, a witness told her the lady promised that she was going to take the dog to a 24-hour vet or shelter.  However, that may not have been the case at all.

“I have frantically looked and called all shelters, hospitals, the 47th Precinct, the ASPCA, animal control center and even the sanitation department, all with no luck of anyone bringing my loved one home,” said Mollica, who has attached a flyer about her pet in Bay Plaza, and all along Boston Road with a $250 reward that has since been quadrupled.

“My husband feels so guilty, because he was washing his car and did not realize he left the back gate open,” said Mollica.  “He has terminal cancer and was very attached and is overwhelmed with the loss of Bugzy.  We just someone has a kind enough heart to return him to us.”
