Fireworks extravaganza at Orchard Beach

Fireworks extravaganza at Orchard Beach

On Friday, June 27, Bronxites will once again revel in their independence at the seventh annual New York Salutes America fireworks extravaganza and boardwalk festival at Orchard Beach.

Hosted by Borough President Adolfo Carrion, Jr. and Senator Jeff Klein for the fourth consecutive year, and produced by the Bronx Tourism Council, the borough’s first fiesta of the holiday season is an Independence Day celebration for the whole family.

“The Bronx has played an important role in the history of the United States and what’s a better place to celebrate our nation and community pride than at this beautiful beach,” Carrion proudly stated.

As part of the festivities, Alive N Kickin,’ a popular New York night club and wedding band, will fuel the fun with a unique sound while the Fire Department of New York stuns the crowd with a display of aquatic talent during a water boat show.

Face painting, balloon artists, and magicians will be on hand for the youngsters while the adults can hone in on the eclectic mix of the sounds from the Caribbean Steel Drum Band and Transit Pipe and Drums, a bag pipe original.

Popcorn and cotton candy will provide additional fun for the excited youth before the celebration of life and liberty concludes with a bang as a Grucci fireworks display set to music illuminates the vast Bronx sky.

“There is no better way to honor our country than by bringing our families together for such an amazing day,” Carrion said.

The festival begins at 7 p.m. with the first firework to fly promptly at 9 p.m. A rain date is scheduled for Saturday, June 28.

While the event is free to the public, standard beach parking fees will apply. MTA buses will operate on an extended schedule.
