Citizens Advice Bureau holds annual event

The Citizens Advice Bureau held its annual event at the Bronx Museum on Tuesday, May 20.  Over 150 persons attended the gathering, which featured Dominic Carter as MC and two honorees, Dr. Lucy Cabrera, the president and CEO of the Food Bank for New York City, and Peter Magistro, the president of Bronx Pro Real Estate, a company that has developed over 1,000 units of low and moderate income housing.

Holly Block, the executive director of the Bronx Museum, praised CAB for selecting the cultural institution to host its annual event for a second consecutive year.

Planning committee chair and CAB vice chair Jean Smith, said, “We have hosted our annual event in the Bronx for two straight years and in both years CAB has generated more funds than it ever did in a Manhattan venue,” she said.

The event generated over $100,000 in gross proceeds for the second year in a row.

Dr. Cabrera thanked CAB for honoring her work as the head of the Food Bank for New York City, which provides millions of pounds of food to low-income New Yorkers annually.

Magistro, a Bronx native and Fordham University graduate has focused on the development and revitalization of affordable housing.  He praised CAB for its work on several fronts, in particular services for children and families.
