Zodiacs track team tears up the track en route to nationals

The Zodiacs Track Team, shown above at a recent fundraiser effort, has continued to achieve some success since bolstering its ranks to over 80 members.

Spencer Jackson, who recently took first place in the 800-meter race at the USATF Mac Championships at Icahn Stadium in the bantam boys division (teammate Hugh Fraiser took second), recently qualified for the Hershey National Games in Pennsylvania at the end of July.

In addition, Dominique Jackson took first place in the 100-meter race at the Randall’s Island facility.  Also, Laniqua Dinkins took first place in the discus at the PSAL Bronx Borough Championship while Shaahida Putman (top, left) recently took first place in the 100-meter dash in a Special Olympics track meet at Mount Saint Michael.

The team is expected to travel out to Connecticut this week to compete in the regional tournament for the AAU Nationals in Detroit.  The Zodiacs are trying to raise money for their athletes to travel and compete.

“They work so hard all year to make the nationals; it would be devastating not to be able to go,” said president Winston Dinkins.
