Bronx Underground to revolutionize borough’s music scene

A new dance scene is revolutionizing the south Bronx and featuring one Throggs Neck band looking to expand its local fan base.

Inspired by Bronx Underground, an alcohol-free rock scene that brings diverse indie bands to entertain the borough’s youth, Revolution! will kick off a new form of nightlife Friday, July 11, at the Bruckner Bar and Grill, featuring The Scene.

“Revolution! is the new rock n’ roll dance party that brings a downtown vibe to the up and coming Mott Haven neighborhood,” Revolution! founder Anita Colby explained.

Inspired to create a unique and exciting get-a-way for the Bronx’s twenty-somethings, Revolution! will feature disc jockeys Cindy Kim, Adam Underground and guest DJ Richie P playing a variety of indie, rock, pop, new wave and more.

The 21 and up party will also offer half price beer, wine and well drinks from 10 p.m. to midnight, with the Bruckner Bar and Grill’s kitchen satisfying all gastronomical needs.

“It’s really the marriage between great food, great music and great art in the Bronx, and that’s what Revolution! is all about,” Colby said.

Headlining the evening’s festivities, The Scene, a Throggs Neck band first caught the Bronx by storm when they began nearly three years ago.

“The Scene represents what Revolution! is all about. They’re not a carbon copy of what’s already out there,” Colby said. “They’re indie rock, but they put their own unique spin on it and it’s got that Bronx authenticity.”

Having known some of the members since they were teens enjoying the Bronx Underground atmosphere, Colby said she knows The Scene will rise to the challenge and present an amazing show.

“They put on a great performance that will get you up moving and dancing,” she said.

The Scene’s lead singer, Sal Morale, said he can’t wait to get on stage.

“I’m really excited. This is the kind of thing we love to do,” he explained of the band’s love for playing in front of a live crowd, encouraging familiar and new faces to show up and enjoy the music. “It’s going to be a great time,” he guaranteed.

Revolution! is co-sponsored by the SoBro Studios Rehearsal Space, Bronx Underground and Too Faced Cosmetics, which will give the first 100 partygoers complimentary glam makeup.

The Scene begins with a live performance at the Bruckner Bar and Grill, 1 Bruckner Blvd., at 11 p.m., and will continue with a DJ led dance party from 11:30 p.m. on.
