On Thursday, June 19, as part of Bronx Week 2008, the organization hosted an open house to showcase the services they offer so many local residents.
“World Vision’s dedication to improving the lives of our neediest families by providing them with the resources they need to succeed, will be an invaluable contribution to rebuilding New York’s economy and future,” said Borough President Adolfo Carrion, Jr.
World Vision is a relief, development and advocacy organization that partners with community-based groups, churches and civic institutions in the Bronx dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice, with locations worldwide.
Nonprofit organizations in the borough and upper Manhattan utilize the storehouse when they need supplies, from paint and tools for improvements, to clothing and medicine for shelters.
Teachers, who often find it necessary to spend hundreds of dollars out of their own pockets for classroom supplies, can utilize the storehouse to get pens, paper, books and other scholastic materials.
For the 161st Merchants Association, the organization provides vital assistance to its varied neighborhood programs.
Ann Linsey, a consultant with the association, credits World Vision for the supplies it receives during its end-of-summer Back-to-School Jam and Health Fair, in which needy schoolchildren receive school supplies and backpacks.
“World Vision’s support is vital,” she said.
