The Data Advantage Hospital Value Index, unveiled on Tuesday, June 24 at the Healthcare Financial Management Association’s annual conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, included Bronx Lebanon Hospital as its 9th best value hospital in the nation.
More than 1,500 hospitals in top 100 U.S. markets were included in the study, and the Tremont facility was the highest scoring in the New York area.
The Hospital Value Index™ measures quality of care, efficiency of its care and affordability, including the prices it charges, experience encountered by its patients as measured by patient satisfaction and the comprehensive reputation of a hospital as measured by local public perception.
“At Bronx Lebanon, we see these findings as further confirmation of the successes of our physicians, nurses and all staff in fulfilling the hospital’s essential role as doctor to the community,” said Errol Schneer, a hospital spokesperson. “We see it as a confirmation of the fact that we’re leading the way in being both compassionate as well as offering the highest quality medical care.”
With 70 affiliated sites serving over 1 million patients a year, Bronx Lebanon’s excellence in the community is found in its women’s health center, its diabetes initiative, a comprehensive psychiatric program, as well as many other centers and programs.
The 3rd largest hospital provider in the community, the hospital has one of the busiest ERs in New York.
Bronx Lebanon is looking to expand services at all levels, including a new ambulatory care facility opening in the fall and trauma treatment areas, visitor waiting areas and other emergency care facilities opening in 2009. A new pediatric pavilion will open this December.
Local elected officials are thrilled with the results.
“I’m proud of the work they do and the investment the state has put into the hospital,” said Assemblyman Michael Benjamin, who was born at the hospital.
Congressman Jose Serrano added, “Bronx-Lebanon has been doing great work in our community for years. The recognition of their accomplishments by outside evaluators is very welcome. So, I join with our community in saying congratulations, thank you, and keep it up.”
