Bronx vies for arm title

Bronx residents who think they can strong arm the competition will have a chance to test their mettle against some of the largest arms in the world, when the Astella Development Corporation and New York Arm Wrestling Association join forces to present the 26th Annual Kingsboro Golden Arm Wrestling Championships on Saturday, July 26, on the Coney Island Beach boardwalk.

Over 100 men and women, including Pelham Bay’s own Jason and Michael Hall will compete and the overall male and female winners will be crowned Brooklyn’s Strongest Arms.

Other Bronxites are encouraged and expected to attend, or come out to watch the exciting display of strength.  The event is free to both spectators and competitors.

There are male and female novice, amateur and pro categories in 12 weight classes.  Registration and weigh-in begins between 9 a.m. with the actual competition to take place at 12:30 p.m.

The ‘Kingsboro Arm’ Wrestling Awards will be given to first, second and third place winners, and a male and female ‘Strongest Arm in Brooklyn’ MVP will be crowned.  There are no residency requirements and winners qualify to compete at the Empire State ‘Golden Arm’ Tournament of Champions Final to be held at the Port Authority Bus Terminal on November 13.

Judi Orlando, executive director of Astella Development said, “We are very excited to celebrate the 26th Anniversary of the popular Kingsboro Championships at Coney Island Beach, once again. This event brings top arm wrestling talent locally, from the tri-state area and from around the world.”

Future competitions include the Long Island Championships on August 23, in Old Westbury, New York.
