Samuel Young Legion Post 620

Hello all!

Well, I said to stay tuned to this column for news about the barbecue at the VA, so here it is. This takes place on Sunday, July 27. That’s the last Sunday in July. All volunteers, and you know who you are, will mingle at the post at 11:30 a.m. We get to the VA at noon.

I saw Charlie Leach at the nursing home, gave him a check, they buy the food, we cook it.

He was happy to have us. Remember, I’ve said this before, this is not a chore.

It’s a bunch of  fun and the shut-ins are extremely appreciative about the whole affair.

Next Saturday, July 19, is our yard sale. It starts at noon and goes until 3 p.m.

The Bronx County Ladies Auxiliary will host a Grocery Sale on Sunday, July 27, at 2 p.m.

This will take place at the Throggs Neck Memorial Post 1456. Doors open at 1 p.m. Five dollars gets you in and includes coffee and cake.

There will be raffles and a 50/50.

All proceeds go to the Legion Children and Youth programs.

Dues are due.

Trivia Time!

There was a UFO cash at Rowell on July 3, 1947.

Dewitt Clinton, the man, not my high school, started digging the Erie Canal on July 4, 1817.

On the same date in 1939, Lou Gehrig gave his speech at Yankee Stadium.

July 5, 1827 saw the freeing of slaves in New York State.

On the same date in 1946, the bikini was introduced, the swim suit, not the atoll.

Keep the troops in your prayers, hug a vet, and God bless.
