If we use the boundary sticks of 2006, when the Ben Franklin Club, a 48-year-old political club brought in over 4000 signatures for their respective candidates and the Committee of 100 Democrats, a 34-year-old born again political club brought in 200 signatures (in over three Assembly districts), our first time gathering of 1000 signatures was quite surprising. District leader Kenny Agusto ran out of the Bronx Board of Elections and declared “The 80th received 2473 signatures.” Thank you Liberty Democratic Association (LDA) members for making our first time collecting petitions a successful one and more importantly, thank you 80th Assembly District neighbors.
We want to thank the Borough President, Mr. Carrion, for choosing our assembly district to hold his recent fundraiser for City Controller. They were happily handing out monies in Morris Park and LDA member Joseph McManus let Mr. Carrion know his candidacy was welcome in the 80th.
On the same note, we want to wish State Senator Jeffrey Klein a very happy birthday, who was holding his fundraising birthday bash at Maestro’s, right in the 80th Assembly District. President Sally Caldwell, vice president Cynthia O’Neill Reilly and other LDA members were present and helping one of our premier state senators (and former assemblyman) enjoy his campaign checkbook and his birthday cake.
And the alliance movement LDA has put together is really moving forward. City Council candidate and former Community Board 8 chairman Tony Cassino held a fundraiser in the neighborhood of Riverdale. State Committeeman of the 80th, Joseph McManus, joined the Riverdale power brokers in discussing Mr. Cassino’s chances for his 2009 campaign. While Mr. McManus was not there in an official LDA capacity, Joseph is the Bronx COPE co-coordinator for Steamfitters Local Union 638.
Bedford Mosholu Community Association, a 34 year old organization covering the Mosholu Parkway sector of the 80th Assembly District, announced at their last meeting that barbequing has, thus far, gone down 70% from this time last time. We congratulate BMCA for putting together a comprehensive plan for stopping this illegal activity and board member of BMCA (and LDA) Anthony Rivieccio for spearheading the effort.
The Liberty Democratic Association is the political club in the 80th Assembly District. The 80th Assembly District covers the neighborhoods of: Allerton, Bedford Park, Bronxdale, Fort Independence, Indian Village, Morris Park, Mosholu Parkway, Norwood, Pelham Bay, Pelham Gardens, Pelham Parkway, Van Courtlandt Village, Van Nest, and Westchester Square.
