Fake cops rob Rhinelander home

Officers from the 49th Precinct were called to the scene of 866 Rhinelander Avenue on Thursday afternoon, July 17, after reports that three unidentified males posing as cops forced their way into the home earlier that day.

According to victims, the suspects arrived at the house dressed as officers, complete with shields and carrying guns.  However, police say the perpetrators’ props did not have any markings associated with the NYPD, as they gained access into the home and took off with money and other valuables.

The robbery occurred without incident, as there were no injuries reported at the home.

However, the case may not be as clean cut as originally believed with new reports surfacing that the robbery may have been drug related, although no arrests were made at the scene.

Police are still in search of the fake cops and are requesting help from local residents who may be able to identify the suspects or provide information about the case.

Anyone with information is being asked to call either the 49th Precinct at (718) 918-2000 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.

Crime Stoppers has been known to offer rewards for information leading to the arrest and conviction of violent criminals.

Police encourage residents not to confront the three alleged suspects, as they are considered to be armed and dangerous.

Those providing information may remain anonymous.
