Man arrested for killing prostitute

On Thursday, July 17, officers from the 47th Precinct responded to a 911 call from a man claiming to have killed a female prostitute.

Police say the suspect, later identified as Carlos Ferrero, made the call from inside 665 Burke Avenue just before 11 a.m. that morning, claiming he stabbed the woman multiple times in self defense after she had attacked him.

However, once police arrived, the suspect, who local residents say frequents the area and regularly picks up prostitutes, barricaded himself inside a 5th floor apartment.

Specialized unites of the NYPD were called to the scene, including a hostage negotiating team, a canine unit and numerous emergency service units.

Upon entry, reports indicate that Ferrero tried to kill himself by swallowing bleach.  The suspect was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.

The unidentified woman, whose name had not been released pending family notification, was also found dead at the scene.

Ferrero will be charged with murder.
