The month long event provides local residents with numerous avenues of entertainment for a safe and fun-filled summer.
“Summer time is about enjoying the outdoors and connecting with our community,” said Klein, who sponsors the event with the Bronx Council of the Arts and Westchester Arts Council. “My free concert series is a free and easy way for the whole family to spend a night out and just have fun.”
The Bronx’ first concert event coincides with the 49th Precinct’s National Night Out festivities on Tuesday, August 5, at 6 p.m. The senator will sponsor a performance by Just Nuts, formally Mixed Nuts, at Pelham Parkway North and Wallace Avenue.
The following day, at 7:30 p.m., Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge will perform for residents at Loreto Park, between Haight and Tomlinson avenues. Should it rain, the event will move to P.S. 83, 950 Rhinelander Avenue.
On Thursday, August 14, at 7:30 p.m., Klein will present Alive and Kickin’ at St. Mary Star of the Sea School, located at 595 Minneford Avenue, in City Island, with a rain location of Lehman High School, at 3000 E. Tremont Avenue.
Bronx Talent Night, featuring Twin Gold and the continuation of Elvis Impersonator Gene DiNapoli’s comeback tour, will occur at P.S. 121, at 2750 Throop Avenue, between Allerton and Arnow avenues on Monday, August 18, at 6 p.m..
Pelham Bay will be the site of Risky Business’ performance. The group will play Bufano Park, at Edison Avenue, between Waterbury and LaSalle avenues, on Thursday, August 21, at 7:30 p.m.. Lehman High School will play host should it rain.
The excitement continues on Tuesday, August 26, at 7:30 p.m., when the senator presents Eric Clapton is GODfrey, featuring Godfrey Townsend and members of the Alan Parsons Live Project at Veterans Memorial Park, located on the Throggs Neck Expressway, between Ellsworth and Schley avenues. Once again, Lehman High School has been chosen as the rain site.
Loreto Park will once again welcome Klein’s Summertime Symphonies, when The Marvelettes perform there on Thursday, August 28, at 7:30 p.m. P.S. 83 has been chosen as the rain site.
Bufano Park will play host again on Tuesday, September 2, at 7:30 p.m. when Terry Sylvester and the Cryers perform. Lehman High School has been chosen as the alternate site should it rain.
Strawberry Fields will find its way to Veterans Memorial Park on Wednesday, September 3, at 7:30 p.m., when the Ultimate Beatles Tribute Band performs. The event will be moved to Lehman High School if it rains.
And finally, on Thursday, September 4, at 7:30 p.m., Gregory G & the Good Company, an all Irish show band, featuring Brendan O’Sullivan and Jimmy Walsh, will perform at Van Cortlandt Park East, between 238th and 240th Street, in Woodlawn. St. Barnabas Elementary School, at 413 E. 241st Street, has been chosen as the rain location.
Guest must bring folding chairs and blankets to the event, which Klein says doubles as community celebrations.
