Co-op track star at state games

Co-op City resident Simone Grant was surprise when she qualified to compete in the Empire State Games, in Binghamton New York from July 23 – 27.

At 13 years young, only in middle school, she had to compete against High School athletes as old as 17 (Scholastic Division).  Simone qualified in the 200-meter race and 4 x 100 meter relay and the 4 x 400 meter relay.

The 13-year young Simone went on to win the 200-meter race over some of the top high school athletes from the Adirondack, Central New York, Hudson Valley, Long Island, New York City and Western New York. Her relay team took 3rd place in the 4 X 400 meter relay.

Simone came home with two medals in one of the biggest track meets she’s ever competed in.

“I’m proud of Simone, she is one of the children that joined the Zodiacs when Mr. Thomas Francis, president and I, Winston Dinkins, co-president took over the leadership of the team. I thank her parents, Mr. Russell and Mrs. Vanessa Grant for putting their trust in us,” Dinkins said.
