Korony American Legion Post 253

Around The County

The United Veterans Day Parade Committee of New York’s Annual Mini-Golf Outing will be held on Sunday, September 21, at Turtle Cove, with a barbecue to follow at the Throggs Neck Memorial Post 1456. Thanks to the Sam Young Post 620 for another successful Music Night. I promise to learn a polka for the older folks, and whoever made the fried chicken should have a cooking show on PBS! You can call in any veterans’ activities, serious, or fun, to (347) 672-4918 and I’ll post it here for you.

Around The Post

The next meeting of the Korony Post 253 will be at American Turners (the Turner Club) on the third Sunday in September, at 11 a.m. Remember, we’re around since 1927 with no plans on stopping. Condolences to our Commander Pat on the passing of his mom, Catherine. And in another sad turn of events, condolences to County Commander Colleen on the passing of her mom, Clair. I guess the Lord needed two more moms keep Heaven running smoothly.

Around The Media

I now admit to being a member of AARP! They had a story in their magazine concerning the increase of parents caring for their combat wounded son or daughter. One outfit had their IRS 990 form checked out by AARP and were approved, however, they still have court reviews pending. The moral of the story, always check before donating, especially to an organization you may not have heard about.

POW/MIA

The remains of Sgt. Alex Jimenez were repatriated to New York last week. He and his squad were captured while on patrol. Explain to their families how he and his crew get killed, while the prisoners we hold get a special religious diet, medical and dental care and the US Supreme Court to hear their story.
