Westchester Square Apartments offer priority to CB 10 residents

The Westchester Square Apartments are now available for occupancy.

The buildings, located on the corner of Westchester and St. Peters avenues, are nearing their completion and accepting applications for residency.

One-, two- and three-bedroom units are be available throughout the building, with the rent dependent upon income and unit location.

One-bedroom rent starts at $ 782 for applicants with an income range between $28,934 to $34,280. Two-bedrooms are $ 43 per month, with an income of $34,891 to $46,080, and a three-bedroom unit is $1,089, with an income between $40,293 and $53,460. Heat is included in the monthly rent.

“They are mixed-income housing apartments with commercial space on the first floor,” explained Sandi Lusk of the Westchester Square Zerega Improvement Organization. “There are going to be a certain number of units set aside for seniors with home issues.”

Rental priority will be weighted towards residents of Community Board 10, which include Throggs Neck, Pelham Bay, City Island, and Westchester Square-Zerega.

“This is something that gives priority to local residents,” Councilman James Vacca explained. “Therefore, I want to make sure people in the neighborhood apply.”

The building’s construction was part of the HDC-approved $70.5 million for the creation of 531 new Bronx apartments, geared toward low- to mixed-income housing for residents.

Other properties included in this project are the gut rehabilitation of eight vacant buildings in Mott Haven, a new eight-story building at 1211 Southern Boulevard, a new 98-apartment building at 1540 Clay Avenue, a six-story building at 1920 Washington Avenue and an eight-story building at 830 Fox Street.
