Artist, Laury Hopkins, presents show at Focal Point Galleries

Focal Point Gallery, 321 City Island Avenue, will present Glimpse, Portraits And Other Paintings by City Island artist Laury Hopkins, with an opening reception Oct. 3, at 7:30 pm. Village Squares Quilters is holding its 10th biennial quilt show, Quilt Celebration X. The show is being held Nov. 8 and 9, from 10 am to 4 pm at the Solomon Schechter School of Westchester, 555 West Hartsdale Avenue, Hartsdale, NY. The entrance fee is $6.

The show will include over 100 quilts. The highlights of the raffle prizes are A Tisket, A Tasket, a 94” X 94” quilt, hand made by VSQ members and a sewing machine donated by Pins and Needles in Mt. Kisco. A Splash of Silver quilts created by VSQ members in honor Village Squares

Quilters 25th year anniversary will also be on display. The show will include 7 vendors, a boutique of member made items, and demonstrations that will enable new and

experienced quilters to enhance their technique.

The local charity chosen this year as beneficiary of a portion of the proceeds of the raffle sales is Morry’s Camp.

The guild sponsors many ongoing outreach programs such as: Cuddle Quilts, which donates member made baby quilts to needy babies and children; Friendship Quilts which donates lap quilts to wheelchair bound adults in nursing homes; Bedford Babies, a program in which a group of members regularly visits Bedford Hills Correctional Facility to teach quilting to inmates with babies. Meetings are held during the day on the 2nd Tuesday of each month in the Wilson House at The First Baptist Church, 456 North Street in White Plains, NY from September through June. Through a unique Bronx and lower Westchester partnership, the NYC Parks and Recreation Department, the Picture House and the Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum will host a free Outdoor Film one night only for the public on Sat., Sept. 27.

Everyone is getting back to school, but the warm weather reminds all of the summer that has just past and no one wants to say good-bye to summer. Now you can enjoy the feel of summer with a free outdoor movie! on the front lawn of the Bartow-Pell Mansion. Pack a picnic, invite a friend and settle in for a night at the movies.

The free outdoor movie, will take place under a new moon on the Bartow-Pell front lawn on Sat/, Sept. 27, at 7 pm. It will serve as a fabulous way to begin the Autumn in the Bronx. Visitors can picnic on the lawn and snack on popcorn. The first 100 guests will receive a free deluxe beach chair to relax on under the stars and watch this family classic.
