Right to Life Committee sets prayer event

The Bronx Right-to-Life Committee is sponsoring the fifth annual “Life Chain” on Broadway on Sunday, Oct. 5. The event will take place for one hour from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. on the west side of Broadway. Participants will be displaying pro-life signs along a two-mile stretch of Broadway, starting at West 230th Street and going north to West 260th Street.

“It will be a peaceful and prayerful event,” stated Barbara Meara, chairperson of Bronx RTL. In years past, several hundred people have participated. Some of those attending do so representing various parishes, while others take part on their own.

“All are welcome to join in for an hour on Sunday afternoon,” Mrs. Meara said. There will be event marshals every two blocks who will provide signs to participants.

Further information may be obtained from the chairperson at (718) 543-5091. The Bronx event is part of a national event held every year on the first Sunday of October, which has been designated as “Respect Life Sunday” by the Roman Catholic Church.

The Life Chain has gained support nationwide as well as in Canada. More than 1,300 cities participate in the pro-life, pro-woman activity every year.
