Coming soon: The Throggs Neck Merchant Association Fall Sidewalk Sale, being held Saturday, October 11.  Parents bring your children out for clowns, face painting, character photos, free ices, giveaways and discounts.  Many stores will be offering Columbus Day discounts.  We are also very lucky to have Bill Twomey, Bronx historian, who will be taking a ride down memory lane with passengers on the Cultural Trolley which will be available for you free of charge on East Tremont Avenue.  Bill will be on the trolley giving great information about the history of Throggs Neck.  You can ride from Miles Avenue all the way to Waterbury Avenue.  There will be something for everyone.  For more information on the sidewalk sale you can check out our website at www.ThroggsNeck.org.

The Throggs Neck Merchant Association is also having our 1st Annual Dinner Dance on Thursday, October 16, at 7 p.m.  The gala event will be held at Villa Barone Manor, with entertainment from ESU DJ’s.  Business owners as well as residents are all welcome for a modest cover charge of $75 per person.  We are honoring our esteemed Councilman James Vacca, as well as Businessman of the Year James McQuade, and Business Woman of the Year Barbara Perrone.  If you are interested in coming out for a great night of fun, please call us as soon as possible to reserve your seat.  Call John Cerini at (718) 829-3200.  You can purchase your tickets in person at 3707 East Tremont Avenue, ask for John at Capital Shield Agency.  We are so proud of our first year as a merchant association.  As a leader of merchants association in the Bronx, we have been able to achieve many accomplishments under our current board of directors and membership. 

Merchants, our next meeting is September 24, at Spoto’s Restaurant, located at 4005 East Tremont Avenue. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. and as usual great food will be served.  We will be nominating new board of directors.  If you or one of your neighbors wish to be on the board, please attend the meeting.  If you cannot attend, we have set up a way for you nominate individuals by going to our website at www.ThroggsNeck.org.  At the October meeting we will be voting these nominees into the official positions. Our Merchant of the Week is J. Scaduto & Son, They are a commercial roofing and waterproofing company located in the south Bronx. They specialize in commercial roofing, waterproofing, masonry and sheet metal fabrication. Joseph Scaduto is a licensed New York City Special Rigger and a certified Site Safety manager. Their jobs vary from large commercial projects to small neighborhood jobs. They were originally located in Throggs Neck but needed to move to a larger facility. Joseph and his family live in Locust Point and are actively involved in all community affairs. His wife, Ronnie, works as a part-time teacher’s aid at P.S. 101 where their son, Joseph, attends.
