Cruise the Zoo Weekend Oct. 3-5

Explore far-off places at the Bronx Zoo, using a special Zooport to chart your course to adventure on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 3 to 5 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cruise the Zoo and learn about wildlife and wild places, while enjoying a fun, healthy, outdoor family activity. There are free give-aways courtesy of Cruise the Zoo weekend sponsor Royal Caribbean International® while supplies last and zoo-goers can enter to win a free Royal Caribbean International® cruise.

Discover the many ports-of-call throughout Royal Caribbean International’s® Cruise the Zoo weekend. Youngsters can get their Zooport stamped along the way and when completed, turn them in at a Royal Caribbean Station to receive a prize (stamps and prizes available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. while supplies last.) So come aboard – we’re about to set sail!

It’s the Alaskan coast where Wildlife Conservation Society field staff is studying the effects of climate change on polar bears, caribou, and migratory shorebirds in Denali National Park. View amazing grizzly bear enrichment demonstrations and learn how the Bronx Zoo’s grizzlies are kept mentally and physically stimulated, 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., Grizzly Exhibit.

Bangkok is the gateway to breathtaking landscapes of Thailand, where you can find an astounding diversity of wildlife. WCS is training Thai citizens to manage protected areas and conserve wild spaces. Experience the mystery of an Asian rain forest inside JungleWorld. Amazing Asian performers will perform traditional Asian dances, noon, 2 and 4 p.m.,

Belize City, Belize

With lush tropical rain forest and a gorgeous Caribbean coastline, it’s not wonder Belize City is known as “The Jewel.” Throughout Belize, WCS is at work protecting jaguars, howler monkeys, and many exotic animals; and on Middle Key, WCS conducts research in the heart of Glover’s Reef, the famed, pristine coral ecosystem, 3 p.m. Primate training and enrichment, Monkey House.

Sea Bird Aviary

Ushuaia, Argentina

Travel through the Straits of Magellan, sailed by Sir Frances Drake and Charles Darwin, to see hundreds of bird species and several types of penguins. WCS works here to conserve penguins, albatross, and other animals. WCS owns more than 680,000 acres of wilderness on the Chilean side of Tierra del Fuego – a protected area for Andean condors, guanaco, culpeo fox, and hundreds of bird species. Tai Chi demonstrations times: 12:30, 2 and 3:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday only, outside the Sea Bird Aviary.
