Mite Division
In the first Mite game played on Sunday September 21st, the American A-1 Auto Chiefs defeated the Legends Photography Giants 12 to 7. A strong ground game led by Liam O’Neill, Lorenzo Maida, Zach Hoina and Marc Porco sealed this victory for the Chiefs. On defense, the strong line led by Teddy “tank” Czerniewski and two open field tackles by Sal Maids held the Giants to only one touchdown. The only Giants touchdown was scored by Julian Cardona on a 20-yard sweep behind the blocks of Brendon Matabeek and Severino Avellino. The extra point was added on by quarterback Joseph Mazzariello on a quarterback sneak over center Sean O’Neill. On defense, the Giants recorded two quarterback sacks by Mark Vega and a fumble recovery by Matthew Carrera on the 5-yard line.
The second Mite game saw the O’Connor Carpet Bears beat the Villa Barone Eagles 14 to 6. The Bears offense was great, led by the solid blocking of Robert Vacco, Michael Morales and Jesus Morales which led to two long touchdown runs by John Carlo Cala, one for 60 yards and the other for 35 yards. The two extra points were added on by Michael Cala who followed the great blocking of Sean Barry and Connor Hanley-Piri. All in all, a solid game by the entire Bear offense. The Bears defense was at its best, led by Damian Garcia, Julian Sanchez and Hanley-Piri who were all over the field making great tackles and causing a fumble that was recovered by Jesus Morales. The Bears defense line, led by Vacco, John Mullins and Santiago Rodriquez played a great game in stopping the Eagles running game the entire game. The Bears linebackers had a great game also. The eagles Colin Wright scored the only touchdown on a 20 yard run over left tackle. The Eagles defense led by Christian Valentin who had 4 tackles and Latiell Ambersly with 3 was the backbone of the defense.
Pee Wee Division
In another great Peewee defensive game the Middletown Animal Clinic Spartans and the Food Factory Ramblers played to a 0 to 0 tie. Offensive highlights for the Spartans were Joseph Silvestri who caught two passes and Sean Vanegas with one from quarterback Christopher Campuzano. Although the Spartans played to a scoreless tie they were knocking on the door all game long. On defense for the Spartans Frank Pinto had two sacks and Joseph Aparicio playing an awe inspiring game with 10 tackles, 6 of them for losses. For the Ramblers, the offensive line led by Anthony Martinez, Cisco Garcia and Tristen Stor did a good job in blocking for quarterback Ross Bucolo enabling him to complete a pass to Bryan Lugo. They also opened up holes for running back Andrew Geni to run for 25 yards. The defensive line played great in keeping the Spartans off the score board.
In the second Peewee game, another defensive battle, the Kleen-Awn Blue Devils and the Jimmy Ryan’s Crusaders played to a 6 to 6 tie. The Crusaders Sammy Maldonado scored on an 85 yard reverse play with one minute left in the game to tie this game up. The defensive plays by Tyler Zaborski and Jonathan Cintron made the Crusaders comeback possible. The Blue Devils took an early 6 to 0 lead. Their only touchdown was scored by Sharrod Gorum. The Devils defense led by Justin Hernandez, Billy Rueger, Eric Berrios and Bo Kendrick-Holmes kept the Crusaders in check for most of the game allowing the tying score late in the game.
We finally saw some offense in the Peewee game played on Sunday; the Anthony’s Collision Redskins defeated the Dr. David Stevens Steelers 12 to 6. Quarterback Jonathan Castillo broke out twice for both Redskins touchdowns behind the good blocking of Issiah Rosario, Angel Nevarez and Tariq Davis. The Redskins defense played a solid game putting pressure on the Steelers in the backfield. The Skins defense led by Nevarez, Ryan Cox, Steve Leon and Tariq Davis had key tackles in insuring this victory.
Junior Division
The Ralph Giordano F. H. Saints beat the Paddy Doherty’s Black Knights 13 to 0 in the first junior game. The Knights chose to receive on the opening kick, but were held back by the Saint defensive. The Saints then opened up the scoring with a long TD run by Jeremy Vega behind the blocking of Sean Sonnemann and Joshua Nugent. Bryan Leon ran in the extra point. On the next Knight drive Sean Sonnemann forced a fumble by the knight’s running back and recovered the ball to put the Saint’s offense back on the field. Several plays later Bryan Leon ran in for a touchdown but the Saints were denied the extra point. That was the end of the scoring for the first half and for the rest of the game. The Saints offense was working up the field but the clock ran out in the half. The second half was a defensive battle between the two teams with both defenses holding the offensive squads scoreless. The Saints defense highlights included: a forced fumble by David Torres that was recovered by Paget Bramble; the next defense round saw David Torres intercepting a Knights pass; the Saints defense ended the game with a fumble recovery by Zamuki Colon. The rest of the Saints defense played a solid second half. The Knights put up a good fight in this loss to the Saints. The Knights defense led by Justice Molina, Declan Byrne, Angel Torres, Dawshaquan Thomas and Owen Simpson put up a strong front. The Knights moved the ball on offense with the running of Richard Johnson, Darius Hodges and Eric Bachelder behind the blocking of Juany Colon, Richard Guzman, Angel Torres and Shadell Morgan.
In the last game of the day, the Silvestri Carpet Javelins beat the McNulty F. H. Rams 14 to 6. In the first quarter, the Javelins drove 60 yards to the 15 where Dylan Monserrate ran it in behind the great blocks from Kadar Smith and James Glenn. In the fourth quarter, after going scoreless for two quarters the Javelins picked up the pace with Adrian Aviles catching a good pass from Anthony Monserrate to set up the winning touchdown. On defense the Javelins led by Thomas Vicente and Michael Morrone made key tackles to stop the Rams from scoring. Well, what can be said, still hung-over from last week’s win the Rams did not show up for the game against the Javelins. The Rams only bright spot was Makai Hawkins, who scored his league leading 4th touchdown of the year. Not to worry. The Rams will bounce back this week or ELSE. Coach Rusty said, “The defense has to toughen up.”
