Van Nest Community Association

Last week we held our monthly meeting and updated everyone that was there about what the association did over the summer. We informed them on what was happening with Karma and our speed hump request for Van Nest Avenue. A vote was passed that we send a letter to Community Board 11 requesting that sanitation purchase a holster for snow removal on our narrow streets. A holster is a vehicle that is smaller than the regular sanitation trucks that is used for snow removal and salt spreading. That letter was turned in to Community Board 11 along with letters for other community associations.

The bad news as we all know is the city is cutting back, but that does not mean that the narrow streets of the Van Nest community should continue to be the last street cleaned until sanitation can borrow a holster from Community Board 12, leaving our streets to become icy and dangerous to drive on.

Our community deserves proper sanitation services. We pay our full taxes and should not have to settle for discounted services. Write Councilman Joel Rivera, 1901 Southern Boulevard, Bronx N.Y. 10460, as well as Councilman James Vacca, 3040 East Tremont Avenue, Room 104, Bronx N.Y. 10461 and let them know that because our community is considered unimportant we are entitled to basic services only when sanitation has the time and manpower to give them to us.

Our seniors went to the Showboat Casino this month, and everyone said they had a great time there. Our October trip will be to the Showboat as well. If you want to be in on the fun, contact Mary or Zena at the association, Monday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at (718) 792-2925 to purchase tickets before they are all gone.
