Samueal Young Legion Post 620

Hello all!

Here’s an item passed on to me 620 member Ron Goetz.

It’s from the “In the News” column of the AARP Bulletin (to which I am not old enough to subscribe). Anyway, It’s title is “Giving vets a little R&R.” It is the brainchild of former Marines Peggy and Chris Carr of Mason Neck, Va. Last year, the couple launched Vacation for Veterans.

(Www.vacationforveterans.org) a nonprofit that pairs Purple Heart recipients with home owners willing to donate a week at their vacation properties. More than 250 homeowners and 50 vets have participated in this program. More than 30,000 military personnel have been awarded a Purple Heart for combat injuries received during the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. Many endure months of rehab and separation from family.

A luxury vacation is a great pick-me-up. So, if any of you in “Bronx Times Reporterland” have any property sitting idly, give this some thought.

Halloween is coming up. You drivers be attentive, stay off the cell and watch out for the little goblins, witches, Blue’s Clues and Sponge Bobs. Parents pay attention to the candy trove. I love this holiday because I buy only candy I like and hope the kids don’t show up.

Remember our yard sale on Saturday, October 25, from noon to 3 p.m.

Remember the amendment placed on this years ballot allowing disabled vets to get preference on Civil Service Tests, even if their not collecting disability benefits.
