Throggs Neck Merchants Association

Thank you!  If you were there or a part of our 1st Annual Dinner Dance on October 16th at Villa Barone Manor, thank you!  We had a spectacular turnout.  With close to 180 people who attended, or placed an ad in our journal which proudly displayed over 50 local advertisers, we were honored by your presence in your own way.  Any organization relies on the participation of its members as well as public support.  The Throggs Neck Merchant Association officially started October 2007 and so in 12 months we have been able to achieve many accomplishments thanks to help and support from so many.  There are too many to thank in this article, you know who you are, please continue to support and assist us in the ways you can.

Our honorees of the night were so gracious and appreciative in their acceptance speeches.  We were delighted to hear the nice things they had to say about our Association.   It makes us very proud to once again acknowledge the 2008 honorees who were Councilman James Vacca recipient of the TNMA Excellence Award,  Barbara Perrone (owner of Penny Pincher) as our Business Woman of the Year, and  James McQuade (owner of Schuyler Hill Funeral Home) as our Businessman of the Year. We thank them for accepting our awards for their hard work over the years and ask that they continue to support our organization and the Throggs neck community.

We would also like to thank those merchants who participated in our 3rd Sidewalk Sale on October 11.  We had so many events going on ranging from the Pumpkin Patch at Anthony’s Flower Farm all the way to ConfettiClowns.com face painting at CitiBank and so many in between.  Our merchant association has been an inspiration for other community organizations from other areas of the Bronx.  I have been contacted by other community leaders and congratulated on our success.

As the year goes by fast, we are quickly approaching Thanksgiving coming soon right after Halloween.  The Throggs Neck Merchant Association has to get started on our Holiday Lights Fund Collection.  If you are a merchant in the community, please be prepared with your checks to give the representative as they come to your establishments.  Our representative are all business owners of the community themselves and do not have the time to continuously come back to your stores to collect.  If you would like to contribute by credit card, you can go to our website at www.ThroggsNeck.org and click on the “Pay Now” link.  We have enhanced the website to accept all major credit cards.    Last year we had over 40 strands of lights from Miles Avenue to Waterbury Avenue.  We hope to expand the area of the lights once again and make the community even brighter.

Merchants you are all invited to our next monthly Merchant meeting being held at Louis seafood located at 3478 East Tremont Avenue on October 29, at 7 p.m.  We will be voting for our 2009 board of directors.  If you are a merchant and would like to nominate yourself or another merchant member, please go to our website at www.ThroggsNeck.org and nominate your choice of Throggs Neck business owner.   We will also be having the new captain of the 45th Precinct as our  guest speaker, Captain Roumeliotis.
