Fire engulfs home

A fire that had the potential for tragedy occurred last Friday night on a quiet Waterbury-LaSalle street, is being investigated by the FDNY. The property was vacant at the time and the fire did not spread to other structures.

The fire, which engulfed a wood-frame home at 1177 B Street, was first reported at 12:39 a.m. on Friday, October 24 to authorities, which responded to the quiet, dead-end street near the intersection of Baisley Avenue.

“We got a second alarm to come to the scene, and our response included 106 firefighters in 25 units,” said New York Fire Department spokesman Firefighter Alejandro Bartley. “Three firefighters were injured and taken to Jacobi Hospital. There were no civilian injuries.”

The FDNY is still investigating the cause of the fire, which was finally brought under control at 1:34 a.m.
