Bx Chamber event reveals Pelham-Split Rock clubhouse

While in the past, the Bronx hasn’t known country club-style golfing this is starting to change as American Golf opened its new private party venue at Pelham-Split Rock’s clubhouse, hosting the New Bronx Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, October 15.

The soft opening of the venue, a city land-marked art-deco style building with modern interior design, is located at the edge of the two 18-hole golf courses at 870 Shore Road in Pelham Bay Park.

American Golf, which manages the golf course, created a new catering facility at the location for private functions, in addition to remodeling the public portion of the building, which includes both a club shop, and bar and grill.

“We are hoping to book plenty of holiday parties and would like companies to consider hosting their networking events here,” said Tom Gebbie, of American Golf, a Boulder, Colorado-based company that manages several public-golf courses in New York City. “Being close to the Westchester border, a lot of people still don’t know about us.”

American Golf has also built a fully heated and air-conditioned 2,700 square-foot pavilion outside of the white-columned building, feet from where golfers can T-off.

“We can do a cocktail reception for 125 people, and with use of the pavilion, have space for another 200,” Gebbie said. “We can put a dance floor in the pavilion and have a D.J. in there. Because it is a golf course, there is no reason we shouldn’t have indoor events and dinning in the winter months.”

The clubhouse is a New York City Landmark that boosts vaulted ceilings and art-deco style “portal” windows, circular shaped, lining the lower roof of the building.

“I think that anyone who cares about architecture can recognize the unique design of the building is true to the art deco tradition,” Gebbie stated. “[This is evident in] the details on the windows and the Corinthian columns.”

The private reception area has a bridal suite, and could be the perfect place for weddings or other special events.

Attendees at the New Bronx Chamber of Commerce event were treated to fine food and spirits, interesting culinary design, really hip interior design.

“I think the newly remodeled building is beautiful,” said an event attendee, Lisa Geldson, of Creative Lifestyles, a south Bronx non-profit providing residential placement and other opportunities for the developmentally disabled. “This clubhouse is a nice place for an event like this.”

American Golf manages approximately 110 golf courses across the Untied States, and holds a 20-year lease on the Pelham-Split Rock Golf Course. For more information on the new catering facility at Pelham Split-Rock, call (718) 885-1258 or visit the company on the web at www.americangolf.com
