Mite Division

On Sunday afternoon at Pelham Bay Park, it was the battle of the Green Mite teams, as the white and green North Bronx Paint and Hardware Jets beat the green and white Villa Barone Manor Eagles 13 to 0.  The Jets touchdowns were scored by Tyriq Williams, who had a 100 yard rushing day and Conrad Perry.  The extra point was scored by quarterback Gerard Weihe.  The Jets defense led by the solid tackling of James Albertelli, Michael Zerbo, Cameron Gomez and Divine Bramble kept the Eagles off the scoreboard.

In the next game the O’Connor Carpet Bears out slugged the Legends Photography Giants 20 to 13.  For the Giants Mark Vega and Julian Cardona scored the touchdowns, Vega on a reverse and Cardona straight up the middle.  On defense, Sean O’Neill and Mark Cojacaru led the way with strong line play.

Pee Wee Division

In the first Peewee game of the day the Food Factory Ramblers beat the Kleen-Awn Blue Devils 20 to 0.  The Ramblers touchdowns were scored by Bryan Lugo on a 20 yard run and a 40 yard pass and run and Andrew Geni on a 40 yard run.  Jimbo Barry also contributed on offense with numerous runs to keep drives going.  The Ramblers defense played a big part in this win.  Anthony Martinez had two sacks while Tyler Scott had one.  Anthony Muniz, Lazarous Santiago and Ross Bucolo made some outstanding tackles the entire game to keep the Blue Devils from scoring.

The Dr. David Stevens Steelers and the Jimmy Ryan’s Crusaders battled to a 12 to 12 tie.  The offensive stars for the Steelers were Renard Johnson, with a 55 yard touchdown run, Nikolas Garcia who not only scored a 15 yard touchdown but had a great catch for 20 yards and Kameren McMillan led most runners for big yardage going over the left side of the line.  On defense, Agenol Fernandez forced a fumble and recovered it.  Garcia and McMillan stuffed a run up the middle on an extra point try that led to the tie and Sudiata Powell had a total of eight tackles 5 of them solo.

In the Peewee game played on Sunday, the Middletown Animal Clinic Spartans got by the Anthony’s Collision Redskins 14 to 6.  On offense for the Spartans quarterback William Espinal threw a touchdown pass to Jordan Dabkowski that went for 20 yards then completed the extra point to Christopher Campuzano.  Dabkowski scored the second touchdown on a 40 yard run with Nicholas Zayas scoring the extra point.

Espinal completed six passes for the day.  The offensive line led by Victor Falu, Anthony Russo and Frank Pinto played great all day long in protecting the quarterback and making holes for the running game.    On defense for the Spartans, Kalif Cox had three sacks while pressuring the quarterback all day.  Solid tackling by Nicholas Gennarelli, Juan Carlos Villalobos and Derrick Shirley kept the Redskins to only one score.  For the Redskins quarterback Jonathan Castillo broke a 50 yard run for the only Skins touchdown.  While on defense Tariq Davis and Angel Nevarez played well making key tackles to keep this game close.

Junior Division

The Ralph Giordano F. H. Saints kicked off to the McNulty F. H. Rams to start their last game of the second round of the season.  The ball quickly returned to the Saints when Bryan Leon picked off a Rams pass.  The Saints offense took over and worked the ball down field and the drive closed with a 2 yard run by Jeremy Vega, he followed up with the extra point behind the blocks of guards Paget Bramble and Sean Sonnemann.  The Saints defense took over and held a tough Rams offense from scoring.  That closed out the first half.  Back on offense Jeremy Vega had a breakaway 50 yard run for the second Saints touchdown, running out of his shoe at about the Rams 10 yard line, the extra point was run in from the outside by Bryan Leon.  The Saints defensive line of Justin Mogg, Elyjah Alamo, Sonnemann and Bramble and ends Zamuki Colon and Steven Ramos continued to deny the Rams quarterback time to pass, while linebackers Vega, David Rivas-Torres and Ryan DiGirolamo minimized the first down conversions.  The third and final score for the Saints was another TD run by Jeremy Vega, with David Rivas-Torres pounding in the extra point.  The offensive line of Anthony Lardo, Matthew Kelly, Paget Bramble, Robert Silvestri, Sean Sonnemann, Thomas Rufino and Joshua Nugent played a solid game giving quarterback Ryan DiGirolamo the protection he needed.  Wide receiver Jose Detres played some iron man football playing defensive line in the second half.

The second  game saw the Silvestri Carpet Javelins defeat the Paddy Doherty’s Black Knights 20 to 7.  The first Javelin’s score was provided by Malachi Smith breaking three tackles as he pounds his was for 40 yards for the touchdown behind the blocks of Adrian Aviles and Nelson Rivera.  Tony Monserrate, on a broken play, ran for 70 yards behind the big blocks of Thomas Vicente and Jonathan Cardona for the second Javelins score.  The last Javelin touchdown was scored by Carlos Flores on a reverse that went for 55 yards.  The solid Javelins defense was led by Kadar Smith and Michael Morrone who were able to hold the Knights to only touchdown.

Pop Warner Teams

The Kaseman Chiropractic Pee Wee Warriors travel team wrapped up the NYC Pop Warner regular season championship this past Saturday by defeating the second place Brooklyn Falcons in a hard fought defensive battle.   The final score of 14-0 reflected a well played defensive game by the leagues top two teams.  The Falcons who finished the regular season 4-2 lost only to the Warriors this season and probably will get a chance to avenge those two losses in the championship game on November 2nd.  The Warriors, meanwhile, finished their regular season with a perfect 6-0 record and a dominating point differential of 151-12.  Saturday was a tough contest that had the Warriors lose their quarterback James Werner to injury but the running game proved too strong to contend with as they rolled up 217 rushing yards.  Leading the way was Domenic Arena who exploded for a season high 178 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown.  Jayson Gonzalez chipped in with 39 yards and a number of hole clearing blocks which allowed the Warriors to control both the game and the clock. The offensive line was lead by the play of right guard Donvito Kuinlan who did a great job of finishing his blocks and DJ Cassidy who controlled his gap all day.

Defensively, Caesar Holcomb was everywhere as he chased down the ball from sideline to sideline and often finished the play with a bone crushing hit. Edwin Webber and Giancarlo Furio did a superb job of shutting down the outside and Justin Acosta took care of the  inside as he was constantly getting great penetration.  The Warriors pursuit of a championship will start with their Bronx rival, the Kips Bay Mustangs on Sunday, October 26 at Pelham Bay Park’s, Rice Stadium at 1 p.m.
