Newlywed nabbed in killing wife’s pet dog

A man who allegedly took his frustrations out on his wife’s dog may be looking at jail time, after allegedly murdering the beagle by stabbing it in the chest and stomach, and shooting the animal with a BB gun.

Brian McCafferty, a newlywed, is being charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony, as well as two related charges, for allegedly stabbing and shooting with the BB gun his wife’s beagle, which was named Jerry.

McCafferty was allegedly drunk and arguing with his wife Jeanine Tulimero at their Throggs Neck waterfront condo home located at 54 Patricia Lane at approximately between 4:45 and 6 a.m., on Wednesday, October 29 when the incident occurred.

The animal died on the scene, and an autopsy done by the ASPCA revealed that it died from complications related to stab wounds.

“The owner’s husband decided to kill his wife’s dog after an argument,” said Community Affairs Officer Ann Marie Morrison of the 45th Precinct. “In the process, he cut his hand.”

According to the complaint, McCafferty allegedly said, when taken into custody, “I killed the dog. The dog attacked me and jumped at my throat. I stabbed the dog and I shot the dog with my BB gun. I hated that dog.”

According to the complaint report, police officers arriving at the scene observed the dead body of the dog, and saw that it apparently had bled to death.

McCafferty, who worked in construction, allegedly came home after a night of drinking with friends and confronted his wife, who subsequently left their home and returned after an hour. Upon returning, she found her dog dead and, after calling her mother, called police.

According to police, McCafferty had one prior arrest for assault. McCafferty was issued a $25,000 cash/$50,000 bond bail.
