The Throggs Neck Merchants Association is proud to be participating in the Annual Tree Lighting in Throggs Neck sponsored by Assemblyman Michael Benedetto. The Tree Lighting will be held at on December 7 at 5 p.m. at the Triangle (at the intersection of E. Tremont and Dewey avenues) across from the Throggs Neck Library. The event will start with a blessing from St. Benedict’s and St Frances de Chantal churches, followed by the tree lighting. Santa will then pay a visit bringing toys for all the children. Hot cocoa and cookies will be provided by the Menna family. The church choir of St. Benedict’s will be entertaining all with Christmas carols. The toys are being provided to all the children who attend courtesy of The Throggs Neck Merchant Association. Please bring your children, grandchildren, and tell the neighbors.
The Throggs Neck Merchants are also coordinating the Holiday Lights for Tremont Avenue. This year we are proud to announce the lights will be extending to the Waterbury/LasSalle area of East Tremont. Merchants from the new area contacted us and are very excited to be a part of the Holiday Lights this year. The Holiday Lights each year are provided courtesy of many of our local businesses. Each business makes a minimum contribution of $150. Some stores have contributed more ranging from $350 to $1,000. To find out how much your favorite stores have contributed, please visit our website at www.ThroggsNeck.org If you do not see the stores you shop at, please ask those store owners why they have not contributed. Many stores have contributed as you will see them displaying festive signs in their windows soon. However, many stores unfortunately have not contributed. Many business owners have to decline to contribute to the Holiday Lights. Therefore, please let those business owners who have contributed know how you feel about the lights. If the business owners do not contribute in the future, we cannot put on the fantastic display as we do. We will be taking a full page ad in the Bronx Times and Penny Pincher soon to display all the names and the level of contribution soon after the lights go up. This is one of our ways as business owners to give back to the Throggs Neck community thanking you for visiting our businesses all year round.
The Throggs Neck Merchant Association is also very excited to announce a new contest. We are giving away to one lucky winner an I-Pod Nano. In order to enter you must be 18 years old, be a resident of the Bronx and log on to our site at www.ThroggsNeck.org Click on the Register Now – IPOD in the upper right corner of the screen. You will give us your information and automatically be entered. There will be other consolation prizes awarded to others who do not win the Ipod. We will have Gift Certificates from our local stores. With the e-mail entries we receive from the contest, shoppers will be added to our mailing list and receive discounts, coupons and information of upcoming events from the Throggs Neck Merchants in the future. Please enter now and tell your family and friend to enter as well. Throggs Neck Merchants members are not eligible to enter the contest.
Attention Merchant Members, our next meeting will be held at American Turner Club at 748 Clarence Avenue on November 26, at 7 p.m. Food will be served as usual. We will not be having a December meeting, so this month’s meeting will serve as our Holiday Party as well. If you are a local business owner and have not yet joined our association, please come to join this night. Our Association is proud to have had many new members recently join. Our Association covers areas such as Philip Avenue, Layton Avenue, and Ampere Avenue as well. If you know a business owner that is not a member, tell them to come to our meeting.
