Klein donates turkeys to local senior centers

Senior centers throughout the Bronx have been given generous turkey donations by Senator Jeff Klein to help families during these troubling times as Thanksgiving approaches.

On Monday, November 24, Klein sent four turkeys over to the Jewish Association for Services for the Aged (JASA) Throggs Neck Senior Center, located at 2705 Schley Avenue, to enjoy.

“This is so great, it’s very nice of Senator Klein,” said the JASA center’s director, Shirley Brockway. “The winners are so happy and a lot of them could really use the turkeys with the way things are. Jeff has done so much for this center, we are really grateful.”

The JASA center, which serves about 100 seniors, was just one of 45 different locations visited by Klein or a designated representatives in the last week.

“The seniors love it, they wish everyone could win a turkey,” said Nelson Vega, mental health worker at the JASA center. “Senator Klein does this every year, the seniors always look forward to things like this. Every year we also give them a turkey lunch to celebrate too.”

In total, Klein distributed over 100 turkeys throughout the 34th senate district, making the holidays a little brighter for many families.

“We owe thanks not only for our liberties, but to our seniors who continue to make important contributions to the world in which we live. It is especially important around the holidays to remember what we have, and celebrate the freedom of choice which is the promise of our great country,” said Klein. “I am particularly grateful to share my good fortune as a public servant and bring good tidings to others.”
