New Red Hats group forms in Pelham Bay

A new group of a special organization for mature ladies has formed, promising to add yet another Red Hat chapter to our area.

The Bronx Red Hat Roses, the name given to the new group of the international organization of women over 50 years old who gather together regularly to have fun in the Pelham Bay area.

Longtime red-hatter Ann Marie Correale, with 15 of her closest friends, started the Bronx Red Hat Roses. The group is a branch of the California-based organization of women who wear red hats at their festive gatherings. She is the “queen,” or leader of the group.

“The girls and I just started to throw out names and the majority of them choose the Bronx Red Hat Roses,” Correale said. “We wanted to put Bronx in the name because we are all from the Bronx. The club started on February 10. We had our first meeting at my home.”

The motto of the Red Hats is that it is time for the women to do for themselves, after having done for others.

Correale said that after being member and co-queen of another Red Hat group in the area, she decided it was time to step up and form her own chapter.

Correale has raised six children – three boys and three girls – all of whom are now grown. She has 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She has been married for over 50 years to her husband, Rossi.

The group held it’s second meeting at Luca Restaurant on Westchester Avenue on Tuesday, March 10.

“The girls like to get together,” Correale said. “We recently went to Empire City in Yonkers, and out to Spoto’s Restaurant. I appreciate all of the Bronx Red Hat Roses who have joined and thank them for their loyalty.”
