Kingsbridge-Riverdale Van Cortlandt to sponsor Earth Day celebration

Kingsbridge-Riverdale-Van Cortlandt Development Corporation announced that the organization is sponsoring a free family-friendly Earth Day Celebration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 25. The event will be located near the pool area at 242nd Street and Broadway in Van Cortlandt Park. The organization hopes to raise environmental awareness and inspire more Earth-friendly behavior in its neighboring communities.

The KRVC Earth Day Celebration will have kids’ crafts and gardening projects, a book and toy exchange, a scavenger hunt, and games to promote the message of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. The celebration will be held in conjunction with a volunteer park clean-up sponsored by the Friends of Van Cortlandt Park.

To show its appreciation to its neighboring communities, KRVC will be giving away tote bags, healthy snacks, and 2,009 energy-efficient light bulbs. There will also be a free green idea raffle with great prizes. KRVC’s executive director, Pamela Otto said she “looks forward to spending a day in the Park with friends and neighbors to show that its hip to be green.”

The event is sponsored by Kingsbridge-Riverdale-Van Cortlandt Development Corporation with the following participating sponsors: Friends of Van Cortlandt Park, Junior Energy, Kingsbridge Business Improvement District, New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), the Rotary Club of Riverdale, the Riverdale-Kingsbridge Neighborhood Association, and Schervier Nursing Care Center.
