Morris Park Alliance rebuilds business effort

The Morris Park Alliance (Merchants Association of Morris Park) will be is strengthening the Morris Park business corridor.

Established in 2007, the Morris Park Alliance was designed to increase networking amongst the businesses and outside agencies.

“We have a direction, policy, and mission statement and we know what we would like to do in conjunction with working with local elected officials and agencies as well as the city to see what can be done to continually improve our business district,” said William Pedone, a member of the MPA since its creation.

Beginning the initial stages of reenergizing the group, membership board positions have been established or filled including president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, membership director, events coordinator, public relations director, chief legal officer, technology director, and trustee.

“We are bringing on new people with a broader perspective of what needs to be done for the merchant groups,” said Robert Ruggiero, president of the MPA.

“We were never able to fill the board to this level, we have new positions and a lot more people now.”

While still in the formulating phase, during the board’s first meeting on Monday, April 20, members were briefed on past goals as well as given the opportunity to share new ideas for progress.

“Our immediate goals are to speak with business owners and landlords about the potential for business attraction and improvement,” said Pedone.

“We will continue designating positions and acquiring new members before we move forward with additional programs.”
