The Locust Point Civic Association is once again bringing back a tradition whose history in the tight-knit community stretches back 40 years.
The LPCA Country Fair is a highly anticipated event, which is a fundraiser for the civic association’s many programs for children, as well as for repair and renovation to the playground behind its clubhouse at 3300 Tierney Place.
This year’s festivities will take place at the LPCA clubhouse on Saturday, May 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, May 3 from 12:00 p.m. to 5 p.m. It promises to be a weekend of good old-fashioned fun.
“The country fair is an annual tradition that raises money for the civic association,” said organizer Chrys Napolitano. “We are lucky to be one of the few civic associations to have our own clubhouse where we can host local events. We also have great activities for the children which should not be overlooked.”
Napolitano said that there would be an adult punchboard with a lot of different prizes, as well two different games where children can win age appropriate prizes.
Raffles will be sold all throughout the event. There will also be an arts and crafts table.
A vendor will sell organic herbs and vegetables, and there will be a plant sale that will include annuals, hanging plants, and perennials.
Representatives from the U.S. Census Bureau will be on hand to discuss the upcoming census and take applications from those who want to be census takers.
Two representatives from New York State Energy Research and Development Authority will on hand to discuss ways that area homeowners can conserve energy and save on electric bills.
Clara Zappetti of Clara Realty at 3653 E. Tremont Avenue will also set up a table, and talk about the services her realty firm has to offer.
Zappetti will also hand out flyers and promotional materials from members of the Throggs Neck Merchants Association. Napolitano said that the LPCA believes that it is important to have a vital commercial area to support the fine residential communities of Throggs Neck.
“The country fair is not only great for Locust Point, but also for the other community associations in the area and the local business community,” Napolitano said. “We want to promote local businesses, as well as respect for the environment.”
In addition to repairing the playground with the money raised at the Country Fair, Napolitano said that the LPCA hopes to fund family events like movie nights on the beach during the summer.
