Having a unique piece of the New York Botanical Garden within their home, the residents of Throgs Neck Extended Care were able to enjoy the start of spring with their own orchid show.
For the second year, Throgs Neck Extended Care, located 707 Throgs Neck Expressway, hosted an orchid display thanks to a generous donation from the NYBG, following its annual exhibit.
With the help of Councilman Jimmy Vacca, who recommended the group to receive this special gift, the breathtaking flowers from the NYBG beautified the home’s lobby.
“It’s very uplifting and some of them have a nice scent,” said Jody Bonura, administrator at Throgs Neck Extended Care. “It makes all the people here feel special to know the orchids were donated to them.”
Each year Bonura repots the plants and creates a beautiful exhibit, giving residents unable to make the trip over to the Garden a chance to admire the plants’ exotic range of color and beauty.
