Wave Hill provides easels and drawing boards; you bring paper or canvas and art medium. This relaxed, self-motivated program is open to artists at any skill level. Frday, June 5 Nature Photography Series−Summer In Focus: Session 1: Experience Wave Hill’s luxuriant summer landscape through your camera lens with photographer Benjamin Swett. Each session explores the elements of a successful photograph, drawing on examples from student work, prepared slides, field exploration and outdoor shooting assignments. MUSTARD AND FRIENDS: MUSTARD FAMILY COOKING DEMO: Horticultural Interpreter Charles Day shares clever and inexpensive ways to grow arugula and mustard greens, showy members of the Brassicaceae (mustard family), in containers. Sunday, June 7: Meet The Artist/Janelle Iglesias: Janelle Iglesias discusses her installation in the Sunroom Project Space, overture to Whirl, which opens Saturday, June 6. She mimics the nesting strategies of the bowerbird to create an immense, intricately adorned sculptural environment. The bowerbird, an avian “installation artist,” is known for its obsessive scavenging of detritus to decorate into elaborately designed habitats, or bowers. Accordingly, Iglesias collected the materials on the grounds of Wave Hill and its immediate vicinity, and has assembled them to create her own bower in the Sunroom space. Sunday, June 7 Book Release And Signing–The Hudson Valley: A Cultural Guide: Join us for a slide presentation and “hot off the press” book-signing with writer and photographer Benjamin Swett and editor Randall Bourscheidt. Newly produced by the Alliance for the Arts in honor of the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s voyage up the river.
