BCA to showcase new dir.

The Bronx Council on the Arts formally introduces new managing director Deirdre Scott at July 1’s Bronx Culture Trolley at the Longwood Art Gallery at Hostos Community College.

A full slate of trolley activities will provide the backdrop for this wonderful opportunity to meet the next generation of BCA’s leadership. Bill Aguado has stepped down as executive director after 30 successful years at the Bronx Council on the Arts, passing the torch to Scott, a long-time BCA board member.

Deirdre is a dedicated cultural professional with over 20 years of experience in cultural and organizational development, technology and new media development. She left her seven-year post as director of Technology at The Studio Museum in Harlem to join BCA.

She’s held positions with cultural institutions as diverse as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Bronx Museum of the Arts, and Cooper-Hewitt – the Smithsonian Institution’s National Design Museum.

Deirdre has worked as a curator, exhibition and multimedia designer, has held a faculty position at the New School University and was the Curator/Director of the Aquamarine Sculpture Park, NY.

Since 1997 she has lead her own cultural technology enterprise, DesignPolice, specializing in digital media, concept and organizational development. Further, she serves on numerous boards of directors and advisory councils including the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corp – BOEDC, the Workforce Investment Board – WIB, Juxtopia Informatics’ Virtual Instructors Pilot Research Group – VIPRG, and the Bronx Initiative for Energy and the Environment – BIEE.

Deirdre has lived in the Bronx for 20 years and has a long and close relationship with the Bronx Council on the Arts.

Aguado feels that she has a firm understanding of the issues facing the artists, the arts organizations and the communities, and is confident that moving forward she will be a strong advocate for all those it serves.

All are invited to join the staff on July 1st to meet and get to know the new managing director.
